My Huckleberry Friend

half-moon

My Huckleberry Friend

You hung a half moon for me in the blue sky
the day your eyes did not reopen with the rising of the sun.
High above me, there was no escaping our message of love.
Boldly, it looked down on me.
Defiantly it demanded I hear again
what you could no longer speak to me or write to me –
“I will always love you.”

Its cycles will bring it back to me –
a regular reminder that I am the hiding half
and you are the blazing brazen one,
reassuringly declaring,
“She’ll be back, she always rejoins me.”

You’ll case the promise land,
and come across moon river,
while you await me and our one last chance
to make it real – and everlasting.

Words of wisdom. All that is life comes and goes in cycles.

      From Joni Mitchell –
      Circle Game
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return, we can only look behind
      From where we came
And go round and round and round
      In the circle game
